While Barbados is renowned for its incredible weather and gorgeous beaches; it is also the Birthplace of Rum!
Thanks to a deed of sale dated February 20th 1703, Mount Gay Rum is the world’s oldest rum and is still produced at the same site in the northern parish of St. Lucy on the island of Barbados some 300+ years later. Believe it or not; at only 166 square miles one can find three other distilleries on island – St. Nicholas Abbey, West Indies Rum Distillery and Foursquare Distillery.
Each of these award winning distilleries offer unique tours which showcase their craftsmanship and style and is a must do for any rum…well spirit aficionado when they visit the island.
When we speak of Rum, we must speak of food as well; and as Barbados is known as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean you can expect some mouth-watering rum infused dishes and incredible pairing dishes on offer from our varied dining experiences.
One experience you can’t afford to miss is a visit to one of the 1500….yes 1500 rumshops you can find on island. This is the place to become fully immersed in Bajan culture……and enjoy a few tipples as well!
